I Viaggi del GOEL proposes school trips of responsible tourism in Calabria: an invite to discover the Italian region through people who fight for democracy, social justice, development and cultural heritage.
Day by day (4 nights - 5 days)
Day 1
Welcome!
Arrival in the morning in Polistena, at the Social Cooperative I.D.E.A.. Born within the Luigi Monti Community, the cooperative welcomes minors and creates employment opportunities for young people who are housed in the community. Meeting and presentation of the GOEL Cooperative Group, of its change mission in the Locride and its struggle for freedom and democracy in Calabria and in the rest of Italy. Visit to the Cooperative and to the Bioethical Lab where organic essential oils and organic cosmetics are produced. Lunch at the cooperative. In the afternoon, transfer to Locri and check-in at the Ostello Locride, eco hostel housed in a confiscated property and managed by the GOEL. Dinner, with the traditional dishes of Calabrian cuisine and overnight.
Day 2
GOEL Bio: Farmers versus 'ndrangheta
Breakfast. Transfer to Roccella Jonica, at the Social Cooperative Arca della Salvezza. Meeting with the cooperative president and the operators. Visit to the cooperative that runs an organic farm and a family home for children. The cooperative is partner of GOEL Bio, the social cooperative that gathers the farmers who oppose to 'ndrangheta, ensuring ethical business conduct and offering typical products of high quality. Lunch at the cooperative. In the afternoon, transfer to Caulonia, at the Feudo Gagliardi organic farm, partner of GOEL Bio, that produces wine, oil and citrus fruit. The students will visit the farm with an agronomist and learn about organic farming, typical crops and environmental respect. Return, dinner and overnight at the Ostello.
Day 3
Amal e Pathos, the taste of hospitality
Breakfast. Transfer to Stilo, the philosopher Tommaso Campanella's hometown. Guided tour of the old town, that, with its many hermitages and monasteries, such as The Cattolica, a Byzantine-style church from the 9th century, is an example of the meeting between East and West. Lunch at “AMAL” organic restaurant: it runs from GOEL Bio and becomes a symbol of cultural meeting and warm reception, typical of Calabria tradition. In the afternoon, transfer to Caulonia and meeting with operators and migrants at the social cooperative Pathos, which runs a homeless shelter for people who applied for political asylum. Return, dinner and overnight at the Ostello.
Day 4
CANGIARI: crafting the Future
Breakfast. Transfer to Gioiosa Jonica and visit the textile workshop of CANGIARI, the first Italian ethical fashion brand created by the GOEL - Cooperative Group. In the late morning, transfer to Gerace and guided tour through the medieval town, one of the ten most beautiful villages in Italy, which houses a remarkable artistic heritage, preserved for the most part in the Norman Castle and in the Cathedral. Visit to the handloom and pottery workshops. Packed lunch. In the afternoon transfer to Bosco di Bovalino and meeting at the Centro Don Puglisi with Sister Carolina Iavazzo, collaborator of Don Pino Puglisi, parish priest in Brancaccio area of Palermo, murdered by mafia in 1993. Return. Dinner and overnight at the Ostello.
Day 5
Arrivederci!
Breakfast. Final meeting with GOEL - Cooperative Group. Check out.
