Viaggiare Lento: Natura, Archeologia e Antichi Borghi
Viaggiare lento tra paesi fantasma, antichi borghi in cui ancora viva è la lingua Grika e le tradizioni, attraversando antichi sentieri in un paesaggio straordinario caratterizzato da fiumare, crinali, foreste e boschi di querce, cascate e laghetti, tutto immerso negli infiniti colori della macchia mediterranea sulle orme della legenda di Nereide.
Il percorso è in alcune tratte impegnativo, pertanto si prevede un livello di escursionistico.
Day by day (6 days and 5 nights):
Day 1: Welcome!
Arrival in the early afternoon and reception at the structure in the grecanica area. Check-in and accommodation in a double or twin room.
Dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Amendolea – San Pantaleo – Amendolea (3 hours – E - difference in height 450m)
Breakfast and departure for Amendolea, a small village located in the center of the Area Grecanica, built after the floods of the 50s and 70s. The landscape of incomparable beauty, is characterized by remains of ancient Byzantine churches. From the bed of the river of Amendolea, which in the Greek period was a navigable river where the Greeks had a port and an emporion, will begin the excursion among the ridges colored by the flowering of the Mediterranean maquis and the splendid stone houses.
Packed lunch, during the excursion.
In the afternoon, continue the hike to San Pantaleo and visit the village, until you reach a very small fraction of caves and the fiumara of Condofuri.
At the end of the excursion, return to the structure and time available.
Dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Amendolea – Gallicianò – Amendolea
Breakfast and departure for Amendolea, from where the excursion will begin to Gallicianò, ancient village located in the heart of the Area Grecanica, only now entirely Greek. Along the way you can appreciate the call of birds of prey, the colors of the Mediterranean scrub and especially the views that will be wonderful.
Packed lunch, during the excursion.
In the afternoon, visit the Greek Orthodox church in the small museum in the church of Saint John. Continue with the hike back to the Amendolea stream.
At the end of the excursion, return to the structure and time available.
Dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Africo Vecchio
Breakfast and departure for Africo Vecchio, one of the abandoned Byzantine villages, whose origins date back to the 9th century B.C.
From the fields of Bova the excursion will begin immersed in a landscape of extraordinary beauty, a path both naturalistic and historical archaeological on the evident traces of human presence since the protohistoric period.
The oak woods indicate the path to the village of Carrà, from which you reach the abandoned village where the houses are reduced to ruins. Lunch with basket, during the excursion. In the afternoon, you can make visits to the rock of Drako and old Roghudi. At the end of the excursion, return to the structure.
Dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Amendolea – Bova – Amendolea
Breakfast and departure for Amandolea. From here begins the tour in which you will cross small groves of oaks and on top also many other vines, crops existing since the colonization of the Greeks. Visit of Bova, Greek-speaking village, included in the circuit of "The most beautiful villages of Italy" as it still preserves today the remains of the ancient Norman fortress.
Stop in the square for lunch, with tasting of the lestopitta grecanica.
In the afternoon, walk through the alleys of the village and visit the castle.
At the end, return hike almost entirely downhill to reach the castle of Amendolea.
Return, dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Goodbye!
Breakfast and check-out. Before departure, guided tour of Pentedattilo, a small "ghost town" perched on Mount Calvary, whose characteristic shape, from which it takes its name, resembles the five fingers of a hand. Free lunch and departure.
